American Memory – A gateway hosted by the Library of Congress this site connects to online collections of the history and culture of the United States, totaling more than 7 million digital items.

Documenting the American South - A digital publishing initiative that provides Internet access to texts, images, and audio files related to southern history, literature, and culture. Currently includes ten thematic collections of books, diaries, posters, artifacts, letters, oral history interviews, and songs. Sponsored by the University Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

HYPERTEXTS “We DO American Studies” - American literature including works by Poe, Jefferson, Madison, and Twain. Maintained for the American Studies Programs at The University of Virginia.

Making of America – This digital library covers American social history from the antebellum period through reconstruction. The collection is particularly strong in the subject areas of education, psychology, American history, sociology, religion, and science and technology. The collection currently contains approximately 10,000 books and 50,000 journal articles with 19th century imprints. This is a collaborative effort between the University of Michigan and Cornell University.
